Bruce McLean, Ag Extension Horticulturist, is offering two upcoming classes for homeowners.
One is about “Making the Most of Your Vegetable Garden”.  Discussions include siting your garden, organic vs conventional, pest control, fertilization, irrigation, selecting varieties, soils, planting, growing and harvesting.
This class is schedule for Tuesday, March 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Powell-Melvin Agricultural Center. Drinks and snacks will be provided and the classes are free.  If you plan to attend, call the extension office at 862-4591 or email bruce_mclean@ncsu.edu by 5 p.m. March 9.
The other class is titled “Growing Great Pecans in Your Backyard”, and will be about home pecan production.  Topics include rejuvenating older pecan trees, planting new trees, recommended varieties, pruning, fertilization, pest control, irrigation and answer the question…why pecan production has been off for the past couple of years.  This class is scheduled for Thursday, March 19 from 6 til 7:30 p.m. at the Powell-Melvin Agricultural Center.
