COLUMBUS, OHIO – Bladen County’s Mary Caitlin Campbell tied for fourth place Friday in the 72kg weight class at the 2019 A7 Pro Raw Challenge at the Arnold Classic.

Campbell who holds the USA Powerlifting North Carolina state record for the squat in her 72kg weight class set personal bests Friday in the squat, bench press and deadlift. She is the defending NC state champion for the 72kg weight class.

The Bladenboro native passed her state record in the squat by 5 kgs with a lift of 172.5 kgs (380 pounds). Campbell cracked the 200 pound barrier for the first time in the bench press with a lift of 92.5 kgs (204 pounds).

In her final discipline, Campbell busted the 400-pound plateau for the first time with a deadlift of 182.5 kgs (402.pounds) that was a 7.5 kg improvement over her personal best.

The contestants get 3 lifts at each discipline for a total of 9 lifts in the meet. Campbell made 8 of her 9 lifts. “If I hadn’t missed the second squat, I think we would have went for 385,” said Campbell. “But we didn’t want to miss twice.”

Campbell only finished 2.5 kgs out of second place with a total of 447.5 kgs (986.5 pounds) for the three disciplines.

“It was a really fun meet,” said Campbell. “The best experience that I have had so far.”

The Arnold Sports Classic is named after Arnold Schwarzenegger and is an annual multi-sport event consisting of professional bodybuilding, strongman, fitness, figure and bikini weekend expo.
