A quick look at Saturday events in the area…
 
FAFSA Day at BCC from 9 a.m. til 12 noon at the Learning Enhancement Center (Building 8)….Current and future students and their parents are invited to learn about financial aid….See our article on news page for more info…
 
A couple of fundraisers are on tap for Kyle Cashwell…Kyle lost an arm and leg in a farming accident last year…First event today is a BBQ plate sale from 11 a.m. til 3 p.m. at Garland Hardware, 29 Warren St in Garland…..Then the Hickory Grove Fire Dept. is hosting a coon hunt and Chicken and Rice plate sale beginning at 5 p.m.at the Fire Dept. building at 136 NC Hwy 210 west….Take your pic or visit both….Proceeds benefit the Kyle Cashwell family.
 
And a huge event today at Lu Mil’s General Store.  Beginning at 11 a.m. and lasting until 5 p.m., the Dublin Peanut Festival Committee is sponsoring an Oyster Roast & Fish Fry….It’s all you can eat….Advance tickets are $35, they will be $40 at the door…and the procees benefit so many good causes in the area….The DBF committee works hard, raising money, then use the proceeds to support worthy area causes….Good food today, all you can eat….on an oyster-eating-type day…All are welcome….
 
West Bladen boys basketball team overwhelmed Southwest Onslow last night 70-38..The next opponent….As of last night John Clark reported it could be Fairmont, Southwest Edgecombe, Clinton or Durham School of the Art.  The game will be played Tuesday….Stay tuned…
 
The delayed girls competition will hopefully be played today….  Both Bladen County teams are scheduled to play at 5 p.m.  Eastern Randolph at East Bladen and West Bladen at Currituck County…
 
And, East Bladen girls soccer opener has been cancelled…
