Staying at home during this quarantine can prove to be pretty boring at times. At some point, it may seem like you’ve run out of entertaining things to do. Hopefully, this list of activities can strike some inspiration and keep you occupied during your newfound free time.

Cooking/Baking – Whether you’re experienced in the kitchen or only know how to cook instant Ramen, now is the perfect time to experiment with new, delicious recipes. Depending on what you’re comfortable and confident with, you can make something from scratch or make something from a box. The best part is that after your hard work you can enjoy a nice meal or baked goods. There are endless recipes you can find online to suit your taste.

Art – Drawing, painting, and other forms of art are perfect for allowing you to be creative, express yourself, and relax. No matter if you have prior experience or not, you can pick up a pencil or brush and get to work. Also, there are many online trends featuring unique ways of creating art that you can try, like melting crayons or dumping cups of mixed up paint on canvases.

Cleaning/Organizing – Now is the perfect time to get some spring cleaning in. If you don’t feel like doing a deep clean of your house, you can work on the parts that need the most attention and disinfect areas that are frequently touched. You can also reorganize areas like desks, dressers, storage, or any other area you can think of. It will give a nice new and tidy look to your house, and you may even find items you lost or forgot about in the process.

Reading – Before quarantine, finding the time and motivation to read a book might have been hard, but now there is plenty of time to pick up a book. It’s a great way to stay occupied while getting to explore a great story or learn interesting information. Now is the time to finish that book you started, find a new book or series you like, or reread one of your favorites. If you don’t have the physical copy of a book you want to read, there are many ways to read a digital copy or listen to an audiobook.

Blogs – Reading blogs is an entertaining way to spend your free time. Once you find one that you like, you can spend a long time reading through all of the interesting posts. Kimi’s Corner is a locally run blog that you can check out at the following link https://kcowpoke2004.wixsite.com/kimiscorner.

Podcasts – If you prefer listening over reading, listening to a podcast may be a great way to spend your time. There are countless options to choose from, like comedy, news, stories, and crime. You may even find that one of your favorite celebrities or social media influencers have a podcast. They’re great to listen to on their own, or they can be used as background noise for other activities. Spotify, YouTube, and Pandora are just a few of the platforms that offer a wide variety of podcasts.

Games – Today’s technology allows for a variety of different ways you can play games. Aside from traditional board games or card games, you can play video games on a computer, gaming console, and your phone. If you don’t want to put money into one, you can find free games to play in your browser or your phone’s app store. Or, if you prefer physical games, you can buy a new one, tweak the rules of one of your favorites, or find a new card game to play. You may like to play individual games or you can play with others in your household or online.

Gardening – If you prefer to spend your time outside during this nice weather, you may enjoy gardening. You can create new, beautiful arrangements, or add to existing ones. It can be satisfying to take care of your garden and watch it grow and flourish. You can even grow a vegetable or fruit garden that yields delicious food that you can use in home-cooked meals.

Walking/Running – Staying active helps maintain and improve your physical and mental health. Taking a walk around your neighborhood can be very relaxing and pass time, and you can spend time with others while you do it. If you wish to take it a step further, you can go running. If you don’t know where to start, you can use an app like Nike Run Club to set a running goal to work towards, track your runs, and get motivation from coaches and the community.

Biking – Another great form of outdoor exercise is biking. If you have a bicycle or are willing to buy one, you can take a nice ride around your neighborhood and enjoy the scenery. Whether you prefer to go alone or with others, it’s an enjoyable activity that allows you to enjoy the sunny North Carolina weather.
