ELIZABETHTOWN – Kaitlynn Brisson belted a walk-off 2-run single in the sixth inning Tuesday night that lifted the Slammers to a 5-4 victory over the Comets and to the championship of Bladen Recreation’s 13-16 Softball League at County Park.

The two teams entered the game knotted with identical 2-2 records.

The Comets took a 4-3 lead into the home sixth, but Emily Pait reached second base on a throwing error to start the winning rally. After Laci Storms walked, Comet pitcher Maddie Taylor struck out the next two batters, before Brisson knocked in Pait and Storms with the tying and winning runs with a single to centerfield.

Kadance Hammonds pitched the first inning for the Slammers then returned to the circle to pitch the final 3 innings and pick up the win. Hammonds allowed 4 runs – 2 earned – on 2 hits and a walk while striking out five. Teammmate Taylor West struck out 5 and allowed no runs, no hits and one walk in her 2 innings in the circle.

Taylor struck out 13 batters while pitching a complete game for the Comets. She allowed 5 runs – 3 earned – on 5 hits and 4 walks.

Briley Stanley walked and advanced on an error and a stolen base to begin the game. Stanley raced home on Hannah Pait’s infield hit. Hannah Pait stole second base and eventually dashed home on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Comet lead.

Kennedy Carroll launched a double to left-centerfield in the Slammer second inning, and Taylor Lewis drilled a triple to right-centerfield that scored Carroll and trimmed the lead to 2-1.

McKenzie Singletary walloped a 2-out double off the centerfield fence in the fifth inning, and courtesy runner Hannah Pait sprinted home on a throwing error on Taylor’s grounder. An error on Lauren Pait’s fly ball scored Taylor and padded the Comet lead to 4-1.

Taylor West blasted an inside-the-park home run over the rightfielder’s head to begin the Slammer fifth inning. Katlynn Tatum and Carroll drew walks. Gabrielle Pait reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Jayda Butler’s fielder’s choice plated Tatum and narrowed the margin to 4-3.

West slugged the solo home run to lead the Slammer hitters. Lewis hammered the run-scoring triple. Carroll doubled and scored. Brisson cracked the 2-run single. Storms singled and scored. Pait and Tatum scored runs, and Butler drove in a run.

Singletary doubled and scored a run to lead the Comet hitters. Pait singled, scored and drove in a run. Stanley and Taylor also scored runs.
