The Bladen County Schools Board of Education met on Monday evening for a special called meeting. The board approved 162 contracts for certified staff and administrator/support personnel, according to Valerie Newton with Bladen County Schools.

Dr. Robert Taylor, Bladen County Schools Superintendant, explained the meeting further. He stated, “The contracts were standard approvals that we do every year for any employee that has an expiring contract.  Teachers that had expiring contracts were approved for extensions based on what their licensure status would allow.  School nurses with expiring contracts were approved for extensions.  District and school administrators were approved for extensions based on what their status’ allow.  All contracts of the same type (ex. teacher, nurse, etc.) are identical in wording and terms.”

Mr. Roger Carroll, Board of Education Chairperson, was the only board member to vote against the motion to approve the 162 contracts. BladenOnline.com reached out to Carroll for a comment on his decision. At the time of publication, Carroll has not responded to our inquiries.

The May Special Called Board of Education meeting was conducted virtually (online).
