A member of the 1963 Tar Heel baseball team recently discovered the NC high school state runner-up trophy that had apparently been stored at the school for years.
Brian Singletary recovered the lost treasure, cleaned it up and has been sharing it with other members of the team.
According to Singletary, the ’63 team played at Bath High School, a best 2 out of 3 series for the state championship. Bath won game one, 3-2, Tar Heel won the 2nd game 3-1 and lost the tie breaker 3-2.
Tar Heel High School later became one of the schools consolidated that is now West Bladen High School.
