Two candidates filed for office last week in Bladen County with the filing period for the 2020 elections open until Friday, Dec. 20 at noon.

Candidates can file at the Bladen County Board of Elections in Elizabethtown.

Steve Peterson of Garland filed for the Bladen County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat. He will face James G. “Jimmie” Smith of Elizabethtown in the Democratic primary on March 3.

Ashley Trivette, one of two commissioners representing District 3, has announced she will not seek re-election.

Berry Lewis of Bladenboro filed for re-election for the Board of Education District 2 seat. Lewis is a Democrat. Former school board member Tim Benton has filed for the seat as a Republican.

The filing period closes Friday, Dec. 20 at noon. The primary election is March 3. The general election is Nov. 3.
