Larrell Murchison became Bladen County’s first NFL draftee. Brandon Council announced that he had transferred to Auburn University of the Southeastern Conference. The awards continued to pile up for Gabe Barber and Sayaun Dent, but nobody was playing anything on the fields or courts as the public schools were closed for in-person learning.

Elizabethtown’s Larrell Murchison became the first Bladen County football player to ever be drafted in the National Football League draft when he was chosen in the fifth round by the Tennessee Titans.

Former West Bladen star Brandon Council announced that he would continue his football career at Auburn University as a graduate transfer from Akron University.

Former West Bladen star Sayaun Dent was named 1st team All-American and National Player of the Year after he led his Sandhills Community College Flyers to the NJCAA Division III National Championship.

East Bladen senior Gabriel Barber was named the 2020 male recipient of the prestigious Clary Medal. Barber was also invited to play in the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association’s Clash of the Carolinas.

The NCHSAA cancelled all remaining winter sports championships and all spring sports following the governor’s announcement that all public schools were closed to in-person learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

East Bladen senior Jon Von Rupp signed to play soccer at Cape Fear Community College.

Lumberton’s boys basketball team was declared Class 4A State Co-Champions. The Pirates were coached by Bryant Edwards, the son of Bladen County native Worley Edwards.
