North Carolina schools were closed in mid-March by the governor and that effectively ended the scholastic sports seasons after a bare minimum of games. However Three Rivers Conference Players of the Year awards both went to Bladen players, and former Bladen stars Sayaun Dent and Lacey Suggs won big awards. Dent even won a national championship.

 

Former West Bladen star Sayaun Dent was named the Most Valuable Player as his Sandhills Community College Flyers won the NJCAA Division III National Championship

Dent posted a double-double to lead the Flyers into the semi-finals.

Former East Bladen star Lacey Suggs was named the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

East Bladen senior Patience Ward was named the Three Rivers Conference Girls Basketball Player of the Year. East Bladen and West Bladen placed 2 players each on the All-TRC Girls Team.

West Bladen senior Tyre Boykin was named the Three Rivers Conference Boys Basketball Player of the Year. East Bladen’s Javant McDowell joined Boykin on the All-TRC Boys Team.

Boykin and Ward were both named to the NCBCA All-District 4 First Teams.

Three cheerleaders from East Bladen and three cheerleaders from West Bladen were named to the All-Three Conference Team.

Freshman Rylee Chadwick pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters in 5 innings in West Bladen’s 11-0 win over Clinton. Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights won 3 of their first 4 games losing only 3-2 to 4A Hoke County.

Coach Terry Smith’s East Bladen boys’ tennis team defeated Fairmont 6-3 to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Bladen County’s Mary Caitlin Campbell finished second in her weight class at the prestigious Arnold Classic Pro American Powerlifting event that was held with no spectators.

Former West Bladen star Trevor Lesane was batting .272 when the coronavirus shutdown baseball for his Erskine Flying Feet.

Cade Allen pitched a 2-hitter to lead Bladenboro Middle to a 6-1 Waccamaw Conference victory over Williams Township. Coach Tim Benton’s Bulldogs improved to 3-0 with the victory.

Clarkton School of Discovery blasted 7 home runs and 11 hits as they rolled to a 23-0 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory over Tabor City in their softball opener.
