East Bladen’s Patty Evers received a big award from the NCHSAA. Larrell Murchison began his pro football career. Brandon Council was the leader of Auburn’s offensive line until he suffered an injury. Chris Cromartie anchored the defensive line for Campbell. Coach Bob Lewis returned to Elizabethtown for a book signing. Trevor Lesane will play another year of baseball at Erskine.

East Bladen’s soccer teams received national recognition for their academics. Scott Bowen won his first powerlifting event. Kayleigh Raynor, Zach Meares, Lefrederick Wooten and Abigail Madden made their college choices. Harrells Christian won their first 6 football games, and recreation softball and baseball returned.

East Bladen Athletic Director Patty Evers was honored with the Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Award by the NCHSAA Board of Directors.

Former East Bladen star Larrell Murchison made the Tennessee roster then saw his first National Football League action in the Titans second game of the season. Murchison later made 2 tackles in a 42-16 Titans win over Buffalo.

Former West Bladen star Brandon Council played all of Auburn’s offensive snaps as the Tigers opened their Southeastern Conference season with a 29-13 victory over Kentucky. Council played almost every offensive down in the Tigers first 5 games before having his season ended by a knee injury with 5 minutes left in a win over Mississippi.

Former East Bladen star Chris Cromartie made 6 tackles as his Campbell Camels came within a point of upsetting Georgia Southern. Cromartie recorded 5 tackles against Appalachian State and announced that he would return to Campbell for his final year of eligibility.

Both East Bladen soccer teams –girls and boys – received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2018-2019 school year.

Legendary Coach Bob Lewis who coached East Bladen to the 1973 NCHSAA Class 3A State Football Championship was at Leinwands for a meet-and-greet focused around the release of his autobiography “My Story.”

Bladenboro’s Scott Bowen won the 93 kg class in the junior division of the Power Mountain Showcase. It was the first time that Bowen had competed in a powerlifting event.

East Bladen seniors Kayleigh Raynor and Zach Meares announced their college choices. Raynor will play softball at Methodist, and Meares will play baseball at UNC-Pembroke.

Another East Bladen senior, Lefrederick Wooten announced via twitter his commitment to play baseball at Fayetteville Tech.

West Bladen senior Abigail Madden committed to continue her softball career at Belmont Abbey College.

Former West Bladen baseball star Trevor Lesane announced that he will take advantage of the extra year of eligibility that the NCAA Division II afforded to athletes whose seasons were cut short by COVID-19.

Walker Ward and Zach Butler came up with key fumble recoveries as Harrells Christian opened their football season with a 7-6 victory over Trinity Christian. The Crusaders were sporting a 6-0 record by the end of October.

After a 5-month delay due to the coronavirus, Bladen County Recreation’s baseball and softball programs resumed play at County Park.
