East Bladen’s Jay Raynor was named the 2022 Region 5 Girls Soccer Coach of the Year by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association. Raynor’s Lady Eagles finished 2nd in the Southeastern Athletic Conference losing only to Class 2A No. 1 ranked Clinton then reached the 2nd round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Playoffs before being eliminated 2-0 by No. 5 Roanoke Rapids.

Eight Bladen County athletes – 5 from East Bladen (Maya McDonald, Acee Campbell, Zoe Smith, Heidi Rebollar, Merritt Martin) and 3 from West Bladen (Hannah Hester, Makayla Wright, Eva Ayala-Martinez)– received 2022 All-Region girls’ soccer honors from the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association.

East Bladen junior Laura Davisson was named to the 2022 North Carolina Softball Coaches Association Class 2A All-State team. The pitcher/infielder also received NCSCA All-District 4 softball honors.

Five different West Bladen boys soccer players scored as the Knights opened the season with a 6-0 victory over South Columbus.

The 2022 Sports Review will resume Saturday after a brief pause while 3 Bladen County teams play in holiday basketball tournaments. Links to some of the other top sports stories from August follow:
