Montise-Mitchell-courtMontise Arman Mitchell had his bond set at $3 million Tuesday morning on his first degree murder charge in the shooting death of a Dublin man in November.

Mitchell, 24, appeared before Judge Douglas B. Sasser in Bladen County Superior Court. He had been held without bond since being found and arrested in early December in Lumberton. Mitchell also was informed Tuesday that the state would not seek the death penalty against him in the killing of 24-year-old Darrell Dionte Council on Nov. 8.

Mitchell is one of four people charged with first degree murder in the shooting that occurred at the intersection of Twisted Hickory Road and Center Road near Dublin about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.

Mitchell’s sister, 17-year-old Shanika Nicole Mitchell, had bond set at $1 million by Judge Fred Gore on Dec. 7. D’Nazya Sade Downing, 20, and Christopher James Baldwin, 25, also are charged, but neither have had bond set by the court.

Council was shot while he and his brother were sitting in a vehicle at the intersection, according to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. Two men approached the vehicle and started shooting. Council attempted to drive away from the scene and crashed into a ditch. His brother was not injured and left the vehicle to get help.
