Here are three things to know for Wednesday, August 14:

1. Intro to Home Food Preservation: Thursday, 5 p.m., Bridger Memorial Library, 313 South Main Street, Bladenboro. Event is free. Learn various methods of food preservation. To register, contact FCS Agent Jessie Jones at 910-862-4591 or Bridger Memorial Library at 910-863-4586.

2. Back To School Bash: Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Spaulding Monroe Cultural Center, 508 MLK Drive, Bladenboro. Free for all families, children must be present. Food, water slide, bounce house, raffle. Information: 910-863-3110.

3. Bladen County Schools Open House: Aug. 22, Bladen Lakes Primary, Bladenboro Primary, Dublin Primary, East Arcadia School and Elizabethtown Primary, 1-5 p.m.; Bladenboro Middle, Clarkton School of Discovery, Elizabethtown Middle and Tar Heel Middle, 2-6 p.m.; East Bladen High and West Bladen High, 4:30-7 p.m.
