1. Bladen County Schools Open House: Thursday. Bladen Lakes Primary, Bladenboro Primary, Dublin Primary, East Arcadia School and Elizabethtown Primary, 1-5 p.m.; Bladenboro Middle, Clarkton School of Discovery, Elizabethtown Middle and Tar Heel Middle, 2-6 p.m.; East Bladen High and West Bladen High, 4:30-7 p.m.

2. Chatting Chapters Book Club Meeting: Thursday, 6 p.m., Clarkton Public Library, 10413 North College Street. Book is “The Book Thief.” Information: 910-647-3661.

3. National Overdose Awareness Event: Aug. 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Bladen County Courtyard, 166 East Broad Street, Elizabethtown. Memorial walk at noon starting at courthouse.
