Here are three things to know for Friday, August 23:

1. High School Football: Today, 7 p.m. Both Bladen County teams open the season at home. East Bladen will host North Brunswick at 7 p.m. West Bladen will meet South Columbus at The Castle. Admission is $7.

2. Sixth Grade Beginner Band Interest Night: Wednesday, 4-6 p.m., Bladenboro Middle School, 910 South Main Street. Meet band director Jim Crayton and learn about the rental program. Information: 910-863-3232.

3. First Responders Sunday: Aug. 8, 11 a.m., Community Baptist Church, 3107 NC 410 South, Bladenboro. Service to recognize members of Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Bladenboro Fire Department, Bladenboro EMS and N.C. Highway Patrol. Information: Pastor Dan Jackson at 941-228-3627.
