Forty-seven two-person teams teed up Monday in Land O’ Lakes Golf Club’s annual Collard Open on New Year’s Day.
Rick Marvin and Stan Carter won the tournament in a scorecard playoff over Junior Nance and Andy Allred. Both teams shot 13-under. The duo of Blake Baysden and Luke Gooden finished third one stroke back.
In the second flight, Mike Cartrette and Brooks Dickerson won a scorecard playoff over the teams of Will Fisher and Jake Womble and Steve Pippin and Cameron Winebarger. The teams finished at 7-under.
In the third flight, Edwin Skipper and Delane Skipper shot 3-under to claim first place. There was a five-way tie for second place at 2-under. Those teams were Billy Storms and Richard Davis, Glenn McPherson and Dawson Heath, Dean Simmons and Mike Waddell, Jordan McPherson and Chasity McPherson, and Timmy Thompson and Jimmy Litton.
In the fourth flight, Doug Duncan and Jeff Smith won a scorecard playoff over the team of David Maultsby and Eric Pait. Each team shot even-par.
In the fifth flight, the team of George Cochrane and Terry Blackburn shot 3-over and won a scorecard playoff against three other teams. Also finishing at 3-over were the teams of Dennis Stocking and Joe Zajac, Kirby Sanderson and Alan Gerlad, and Chad Lee and Harry Lee.
Closest to the pin winners were Andy Allred on No. 2, Jimmy Litton on No. 9, Parks Godwin on No. 14 and Rick Marvin on No. 18.
The Captain’s Choice tournament at the Whiteville-based course included a drawing for a free membership for a year, won by Chad Lee, and free range balls for a year, won by Ashley Barnhill. A meal was provided following play.
