Spread the love

Elizabethtown and White Lake celebrated Independence Day with a bang. Locals and tourists always look forward to July 4th and the annual celebrations that come with it. People enjoy the events, from weekend-long sidewalk sales at the local stores in Elizabethtown to playing at the water park and watching fireworks at White Lake.

Elizabethtown merchants celebrated the holiday with massive sidewalk sales and extended hours. Kessell Run Comics is typically closed on Mondays but opened its doors for the annual event. The small town business owners always look forward to the increase in traffic this time of year.

Ricky Leinwand, the owner of Leinwands, who helped start the sidewalk sale many years ago, said, “We’re really thrilled with the good business that we did. We had all the folks from White Lake come over and everyone locally and everyone from surrounding counties.”

He added, “We were very pleased, and we did twice as much business as last year.”

The lake saw increased foot traffic in all its aspects, from its hotels to the White Lake Water Park. The crowd was huge, especially at the water park, with groups filling both parking lots and overflowing at the sides. The excited families flowed into the park at an extremely rapid pace, trying to take full advantage of the sunny July weather.

After the sun went down, people prepared for the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce yearly fireworks to celebrate Independence Day. This year the chamber seems to have gone all out for the fireworks. The show lasted almost ten minutes, with big explosions lighting the night sky and reflecting off the water at the lake.  Instead of the usual 9 pm start time, this year the show started 9:30 pm.

The crowd located at Goldston’s was massive, flooding the square area and beach in order to watch the spectacular production. The restaurants were extremely packed with patrons. You could hear the crowd’s reaction of amazement with each firework burst.  View video clips of the holiday weekend on our         YouTube Channel linked below.
