The Bladen County Health Department announced the COVID-19 update confirming 50 Bladen coronavirus cases.

The announcement stated there is increased testing is available for Bladen County residents. Bladen County Health Department has partnered with Walmart Corporation, who will begin drive through testing in Elizabethtown with more to come. Robeson Health Care Corporation will start testing next week at the St. Pauls site (910-241-30420). CommWell Health (1-910-567-7114 or 1-877-WELL-ALL (935-5255) continues to test in Tar Heel. 

Dr. Teresa Duncan, Bladen County Health and Human Services Director reminded in the briefing, “As we move into Governor Cooper’s Phase I plan to release some of the COVID-19 restrictions, remember 3 W’s:

  • Wear a face covering when out in public
  • Wait 6 feet from each other 
  • Wash hands frequently.”

Bladen County Health Department reports additional positive cases of COVID-19 for Bladen County residents. Based on the information provided, county public health officials will assess risks of exposure and determine which, if any, additional measures are needed, such as temperature and symptom checks, quarantine and/or testing. The total for Bladen County residents: 

  • 50 cumulative cases
  • 19 recovered/completed
  • 1 hospitalized
  • 29 isolating at home 
  • 1 death

To respect privacy and comply with federal law, more specific information is not available.  

  • Today the NCDHHS Dashboard listed: 13,868 positive cases, 515 hospitalizations, and 527 deaths, and Bladen with 50 positive cases. Local health departments receive cases throughout a 24 hour period. Bladen County Health Department’s report today is for cases that were received by 10:00 am.

  • Bladen cases have been linked to social gatherings, work, travel, and community-acquired (unknown source). Bladen County residents are vulnerable of getting or spreading the virus. Bladen and every surrounding county have confirmed cases of COVID-19. The virus has been reported in 99 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Fever, cough and shortness of breath are the most common symptoms occurring with the virus. The CDC identified new symptoms for the coronavirus: chills, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, and a new loss of taste. There is no vaccine for the virus. 

Bladen County Health Department continues to follow CDC and NCDHHS recommendations to protect public health and prevent the further spread of infection.
