A Shelter Friend is set to reach a milestone on Wednesday with the 7th annual Spay/neuter clinic.

“On that day A Shelter Friend and Elizabethtown Veterinary Hospital will celebrate the 7th anniversary of our monthly Spay/Neuter Clinic for the pets of low-income Bladen residents,” said Krista Hansen.

The clinics are held on a monthly basis and Dr. Gensel and his staff have worked to see that about 25 dogs and cats per month are spayed or neutered. In that span of 7 years 2,132 surgeries have taken place, easing the burden on the county animal shelter and taxpayers.

The clinic will begin at 7 a.m. and will continue until the last pet is picked up by their owner, usually between 5 or 6 p.m. said Hansen.
