Black Friday is a historic kick off for the holiday shopping season. This Saturday, November 25th is Small Business Saturday. Many of our local businesses in Bladen County have special hours for the shoppers along with huge sales.

“We have a lot of people come in from out of town,” Michael Leinwand from Leinwand’s said. “Our hours are 9 am until 6 pm, but we will stay open as long as the shoppers need for us to, Leinwand added. He also said the store will open Sunday for people to come in and shop after the parade.

Mike Suggs from Fisher’s Mens Shop & The Ladies Shop explained the difference in shopping local versus shopping in bigger shopping centers. Suggs said, “One big thing is to keep your tax dollars in town and of course the personal service.” Suggs pointed out, “The deals aren’t any better [in the bigger shopping centers] than they are here.”

Most of the small businesses offer gift wrapping, free exchanges, alterations and other personal touches for shoppers. Shopping local also increases the wealth of the community. Jobs, taxes and prosperity is increased for organizations and residents when you shop local.

Last, but not least, don’t forget the Christmas Parade held this Sunday. Dawn Maynard, with the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce announced, “It’s not too late to enter the Christmas parade!” Anyone interested in entering the parade may contact Maynard by email at tourism28337@embarqmail.com or call 910-874-0285.

Line up starts at the Elizabethtown Town Hall at 1:00 pm and the parade starts at 3 pm.
