North Carolina’s Southeast held their annual meeting Thursday evening at Cape Fear Winery in Elizabethtown, attendance very good, info very good and most likely the best speaker anywhere, and I had the pleasure of attending.
Mark Vitner, Wells Fargo Economist, was the speaker and as usual, he was at his best explaining the current economic environment, and according to him, it is very good.
NC Southeast is the primary recruiter of industry for 18 North Carolina counties from Anson (Wadesboro) in the west to the coast and from Wayne (Goldsboro) to the South Carolina line.
The organization is a unique combination of business and governmental organizations forming a public/private partnership to promote the area and recruit industry.
The meeting was well attended with 17 of the 18 counties represented. Steve Yost is the full-time manager of a staff of 4 that includes, Joe Melvin, Ryan Regan and Patti Miller. There office is located on West Broad Street, near Elizabethtown Town Hall.
Jeff Etheridge, a Columbus County banker is Chairman of the Board working with a 35 to 40 member board. North Carolina Southeast is responsible for most of the new industry that comes to the area. Of course they work with others, including the NC Department of Commerce and private partners to promote the area.
