Sgt. Barry Pait presents House of Worship Training session.

The Bladen County Sheriffs Office Specialized Training Unit reached a milestone on Tuesday night when they delivered their 50th presentation of House of Worship Safety and Security Training at Greater McKoy’s Chapel.

“The members of the Greater McKoy’s Chapel welcomed myself and Sgt. Barry Pait to deliver the presentation and training,” said Sgt. Gary Turlington.

He added Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker directed the training unit in the fall of 2015 to establish this program. The first presentation was made in February 2016 at the Elizabethtown First Baptist Church. At that initial presentation, multiple churches were represented, according to Sgt. Turlington. At most of the churches where the presentations have been made thus far, several different houses of worship were represented and participated in this important training

“After having spent more than three decades in law-enforcement, this is the most rewarding endeavor I have  participated in,” said Sgt. Turlington.

The Specialized Training Unit has been invited to multiple churches in the region and outside of Bladen County and as always there are no fees for our service to the community, according to Sgt. Turlington.
