Lynn Welborn

A former Bladen County has published his first novel. Lynn Welborn, who now resides in Wilmington, has released Crazy Beach: Disc One and a launch party for the book is scheduled for Monday, March 12, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Hell’s Kitchen in Wilmington.

Welborn also has plans to be available to sign copies of his book during the 40th annual White Lake Water Festival as well.

The book takes the reader on a journey of teenage adventure, lust and mischief all while exploring young life on an island. According to book synopsis, “An instantly entertaining trek embedding into your heart forever the soundtrack of boyhood adventure, the girls of summer, and a journey to Woodstock through the eyes of an 11-year old stowaway.” According to the book’s back cover, the book’s characters learn about the secrets that are hidden within the Wave Theatre, conduct shenanigan’s on the boardwalk, scam tourists, and generally experience the angst of adolescent life.

When asked what led him to write the book, Welborn said, “People seemed to always enjoy my wild tales of misadventures I had while growing up,my concert trips, and other assorted shenanigans. Tons of folks over the years urged me to put them into novel form, so I finally did!”

While Wellborn did not go up in Bladen County, he resided in the county from 1989 until 2013. Wellborn said he actually grew up in Carolina Beach but visited White Lake with his family in the 1960s and 1970s.

“My book is the first of a planned trilogy with White Lake, Bladen County, and some of my friends from that era playing a big part in books two and three,” said Welborn.

He said the lesson he hopes readers will take away from the book is to “take time to enjoy your family and friends, cherish them, laugh at yourself and laugh with others-ALOT!”

The book is touted as being “[o]n the more reflective side, like “The Last Picture Show” or “Prince of Tides” it’s a look at how love, absence, and loss shape us.”

Welborn shared with bladenonline.com, he “has always wanted to stop by a local clothes donation box and as suggested, donate his clothes. The set he’s wearing. His better half always drives past quickly hoping he won’t see it because it’s hard to tell when he’s bluffing.”

Welborn’s book can be purchased online at amazon.com or from Old Books on Front Street in Wilmington. For more information and updates about upcoming book singings near you, visit the Facebook page, Crazy Beach Novel.
