East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – Freshman Zach Meares pitched a one-hitter and struck out five to lead East Bladen to a 10-0 jayvee baseball victory over Whiteville Wednesday in Three Rivers Conference action.

Meares walked only one batter and two batters reached base on errors.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Tyler Hill walked and raced home as freshman Jacob Priest reached base on an error. Drew Sholar drove in Priest with a single.

Jay McKoy led off the East Bladen third inning with a single, and Jake Evans walked. Freshman Brady Hollingsworth reached base on an error as McKoy and Evans scored. Hollingsworth scored as Priest reached base on an error.

The Eagles put the game away with 5 runs in the fourth inning. Freshman Garrett Melvin walked, and Evans reached base on an error. Meares reached on an error that scored Melvin. Freshman Freddie Wooten knocked in Evans with a single.

Hollingsworth smashed a double that scored Wooten. After Hill walked, Priest belted a single that scored Hollingsworth. Greyson Clark’s fielder’s choice plated Hill with the tenth Eagle run.

Hollingsworth doubled in a run and scored twice to lead the Eagle hitters. Teammates Jay McKoy, Wooten, Priest and Sholar added one hit each.

Evans and Hill scored 2 runs each. Jay McKoy, Melvin, Wooten and Priest scored one run each. Clark, Sholar and Wooten drove in one run each.

East Bladen’s jayvees improved to 7-1 with the victory and will be idle until after the Easter break.
