ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Hannah Devane scored her second goal of the game with 4 minutes left on the clock Thursday night to lift East Bladen to a 2-1 non-conference girls soccer victory over Scotland.

Devane’s first goal came in the 8th minute of play on a through ball that junior Ashley Hardin sent to sophmore Patience Ward who pushed the ball to Devane for the goal.

Ward also assisted on the game-winning goal. East Bladen outshot the Scots 12-2, and junior goalie Ting Lin was credited with a save.

“We controlled the game but couldn’t link our passes and made things a lot tougher on ourselves then they should’ve been,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor.

The Scots scored their goal in the first half. “The ball wasn’t pressured from 18 yards out, and their forward just looped it over Ting’s head and outstretched hands,” said Coach Raynor.

“Physically and mentally the girls left it all on the field Monday night (win over Whiteville),” noted Raynor. We had issues last night and the same tonight with fatigue. We aren’t moving and making good decisions. The girls are trying and working hard – just lacking energy and freshness. Spring Break is coming at a good time for us.”

“Hannah had a heck of a game tonight,” stated Raynor. “She had two great finishes and had to move into several positions tonight with girls going out with injuries. She challenged the girls at halftime, and they pulled it together and played with much more energy in the second half. “

“Also need to give Ashley and Sara Gargala a lot of credit,” continued Raynor. “Both went out with some pretty hard knocks but got back into the game. They wanted it and left it all on the field.”

“Cybil (Campbell) and Gracyn (Martin) both had some amazing games and a great week!” added Raynor. “Those two are helping us control the midfield and never seem to tire.”

“We earned 3 big wins and found out a lot about ourselves this week,” concluded Raynor. “These girls don’t quit and love playing for each other. They push each other and have each other’s back. It’s pretty incredible.”

East Bladen improved to 8-0 with the victory. The eight consecutive wins is the longest winning streak in program history. The Lady Eagles will return to action after the Easter break on April 10th at rival West Bladen.
