The 2018 Easter season is here. The holiest of seasons for Christians around the world. Worship and adore him.
Another annual event that is high on the list of many is the NCAA Basketball Finals. March Madness finals will be held this weekend. #11 Loyola-Chicago, led by 98 year old Sister Jean Delores Schmidt (Chaplain), will play #3 seeded Michigan in the first game beginning at 6:09 PM today, followed by the #1 seeded Kansas vs Villanova, another #1 seed, at 8:49 PM, both games on TBS. The winners meet for the NCAA Championship Monday at 9:20 PM. The tournament is being played in San Antonio, TX.
Dates have been announced for the 2018 Bladen County Relay for Life fund-raiser. It will be held at Elizabethtown Middle School on May 4 from 11 AM to 11 PM. Mark your calendar.
And a reminder of the 2 fundraisers for Bladen We Care. The Gala will be held at The Venue, White Lake on April 20. Tickets are on sale for $50 per person and the Golf Tournament will be held at The Vineyard also at White Lake on April 26. A statewide group, NC Child-The Voice of NC’s Children, has recently released info related to children growing up in poverty in the state. In Bladen County, 71% of the children live in poor or low-income homes. The infant mortality rate is 15 deaths for every 100 births and only 54% of third graders in Bladen County are proficient in reading, according to the report. There are 7,337 children in Bladen (not sure of the ages) but do know that 29% are under the age of six, 30% statewide. Not good, but comparable with other counties in the area.
Waiting to see if there is a winner in the Mega Millions lottery. The winner, if there is one, will receive about $500 million dollars. If no winner, sell another ‘ton’ of tickets and try again.
