CLARKTON – Maddie Taylor pitched a one-hitter and struck out 3 batters to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 16-1 Bladen Five Middle School Conference softball victory over Tar Heel Thursday.
Karli Priest led off the Clarkton first inning with a single, and Dyiamon Robinson beat out an infield hit as Priest scored. Mariah Smith walked, and Shy’Asia Ratliff’s fielder’s choice scored Robinson.
Maegan Burney and Ashlyn Williams drew walks, and AnnaGrey Heustess raked a single to leftfield that scored Smith and Burney. Taylor and Priest drew walks, and Williams raced home on a wild pitch.
Lena Trinidad, the courtesy runner for Heustess. sprinted home on a wild pitch, and Robinson’s infield hit scored Taylor. Priest scored as Smith reached base on an error.
Burney reached base on an error to begin the Clarkton second inning. Williams and Heustess were both hit by pitches to load the bases. Taylor drew a walk to force home Burney. Sophia Masaid’ fielder’s choice scored Williams.
Priest yanked a single to leftfield that plated Trinidad and Taylor. Robinson walked, and Smith ripped a single to left that scored Priest. Shy’Asia Ratliff reached base on an error that scored Robinson.
After a walk to Burney, Williams poked a single to right-centerfield that scored Smith and boosted the lead to 15-0.
Caroline Brisson was hit by a pitch to begin the Lady Panther third inning. Olivia Allen and Harmony Jacobs drew walks to load the bases. Briley Stanley beat out an infield hit that scored Brisson with the Tar Heel run.
Heustess legged out an infield hit to start the Clarkton third inning. Taylor walked, and Emma Turbeville was safe on an error to load the bases. Two outs later Smith rapped a single to centerfield that drove in Heustess with the game-ending run.
Priest batted 2-2 with 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in for Clarkton. Robinson finished 2-2 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Heustess batted 2-2 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored.
Smith batted 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Williams added a hit and scored 2 runs for the Lady Blue Devils. Burney and Taylor scored 2 runs each. Masaid, Taylor and Ratliff drove in one run each.
Taylor walked two and hit a batter. Violet Allen started in the circle for Tar Heel and was relieved in the second inning by Gracie Faircloth. Allen walked 9 and hit 2 batters.
Stanley had the only Tar Heel hit and drove in a run. Brisson scored the run.
