Thoughts While ShavingUS Senator Thom Tillis was the speaker at the 50th Annual Meeting of Southeastern Economic Development Commission, yesterday (Tuesday). He spoke about ongoing events facing Congress for a short time and then took questions from attendees. Impressive individual. Spent his early years moving around, earning his college degree at the age of 36.

SEDC assist 12 counties, from Richmond to Brunswick County securing infrastructure loans and grants for projects such as water and sewer to support local economic development efforts. Pam Bostic has been Executive Director since 2009.  The event was well attended.

Ammon Blueberry festival will be held Saturday, June 2 from 8 AM to 5 PM. Always a fun event, and all are welcome.  Ammon supporters roll-out the red carpet.

Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce and Southeastern Health are seeking support for the Sunset Jams, “Alive after Five” beginning June 26th with music by Imitation, at Goldston’s Beach.  It will be the first of 3 such events.  Others are planned for July 19th and August 16th, all are planned from 6 to 9 PM, and all feature different entertainers. Call Dawn Maynard at the Chamber office in E-town to add your company to the list of sponsors.

Lu Mil and Cape Fear Winery are impressive tourist attractions for Bladen County, in addition to White Lake.

The Robbie and Myrtle Hester family will gather this weekend to celebrate mom’s birthday. She was special, as most moms are.

Bladen County school are seeking volunteer testing proctors for testing May 30 – June 8. Call a school and volunteer. Graduation upcoming mid June.

The trouble with learning from experience is that you never graduate.

A graduation ceremony is an event where the commencement speaker tells students dressed in identical caps and gowns the ‘individuality’ is the key to success.

Why didn’t the skeleton go to the prom?  Cause he had ‘no body’ to dance with.
