FAYETTEVILLE – This weekend, traffic at night will be detoured off Cliffdale Road in western Cumberland County where the Fayetteville Outer Loop is being built.

The temporary detour is needed to allow contract workers to set concrete girders over the roadway where a new interchange is being constructed, just west of South Reilly Road.

Cliffdale Road will be closed in both directions during the overnight hours, Friday through Sunday. The road will close at 9 each night. The road will reopen by 6:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, but at 5 a.m. Monday to accommodate Fort Bragg commuter traffic.

Motorists will detour onto either South Reilly Road or Rim Road, depending on which direction they are traveling and use Raeford Road (U.S. 401) to the south.

The Outer Loop is being constructed in segments by various N.C. Department of Transportation contractors. The section between the All American Freeway and Cliffdale Road where the girders will be set for the overpass is scheduled to open by early next year.

Overall, the 39-mile Outer Loop is being constructed to increase mobility, especially for Fort Bragg, as well as to reduce traffic on portions of local streets and connect major routes in Fayetteville to the new highway. The entire loop is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
