It was a beautiful day for the annual Bladen County Relay For Life. Over 850 people effected by cancer were honored at the event held Saturday, May 30th.

During the 12 hour event the participants helped raise $17,294.83 according to Jessica Inman, Co-Chair of the fundraiser. The net earnings so far for this year’s Relay For Life are $89,948.98.

“I think it was great and the one day event is something we may continue,” Inman said in reference to this year’s events being held 12 hours instead of the usual 24 hours.

Before the closing ceremonies awards were give out. Potty Patrol cleaned up with awards for Best Hat, Most Spirited, and Best Decorated Campsite. The Best Shirt winner was Jolie Dwyer.

Best Food first place winner was Smithfield Packing. Second place winner for the Best Food Award was Love Grove Church and third place winner went to Lisbon Baptist Church.

Elizabethtown Middle School came in second for Best Decorated Campsite and Team: Net & Jack placed third.

Inman closed the ceremonies by saying, “I want to say thank to everyone that participated and helped make the event a success.”
