BLADENBORO – MaKayla Wright sank the winning free throw with four seconds left Monday as Bladenboro edged Hallsboro 37-36 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball action.

The Lady Tigers led 36-32 with 44 seconds remaining, but Lainey Autry drove to the rim for a basket and tacked on the free throw for a 3-point play to trim the margin to 36-35.

Kelsey Williams was fouled after a steal and made a free throw to tie the game. Wright was fouled after another Tiger turnover and converted the winning foul shot. Wright then stole the inbounds pass to seal the verdict.

Rylee Chadwick led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points, and Autry finished with 12 points. Mallory Bryan tallied 5 points.

Harmony Sumerville took game-high scoring honors for Hallsboro with 25 points, and Karli Godwin added 7 points.

Chadwick fired in a trio of baskets in the opening period, Bryan nailed a 3-point shot and Autry made a free throw as the Lady Bulldogs raced to a 10-4 lead.

Autry threw in a pair of second quarter baskets, Chadwick and Wright added baskets, and Bryan canned 2 free throws to keep Bladenboro on top 20-12 at halftime. Sumerville dropped in 5 first-half baskets for Hallsboro.

Sumerville blistered the nets with 5 third-quarter baskets, and Godwin bombed in a 3-point shot and hit 2 free throws as the Lady Tigers sliced the lead to 29-27.

The Lady Bulldogs stayed on top as Chadwick buried a 3-point shot and another basket, and Autry pumped in 2 more baskets.

Chadwick netted a basket and a free throw to begin the final period. Sumerville rallied Hallsboro into the 36-32 lead with 2 baskets and a free throw.

Coach Joey Autry’s Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-4 but will be idle until Feb. 7th when they travel to Hallsboro.
