TAR HEEL – Karli Priest, Lena Trinidad and Maddie Taylor combined to pitch a one-hitter as Clarkton School of Discovery defeated Tar Heel 13-2 Thursday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball action.

Brooke Priest yanked a single down the leftfield line in the first inning for the only Tar Heel hit.

Karli Priest pitched one scoreless inning and allowed one hit. Trinidad pitched 0.1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 walks and a hit batter. Taylor relieved and worked the final 2.2 scoreless innings retiring 8 of 9 batters, striking out 5 and walking one.

Clarkton scored 5 runs in the first inning. Karli Priest reached base on an error, Addie Bowen walked and Emma Turbeville, Maegan Burney, Trinidad, and AnnaGrey Heustess belted singles. Priest, Bowen, Turbeville, Burney and Trinidad scored runs.

The Lady Blue Devils added 6 runs in the second. Karli Priest walked, and Bowen was hit by a pitch. Turbeville hammered a double, and Shy’Asia Ratliff walked. Burney and Trinidad reached base on errors, and Heustess walked. Priest, Bowen, Ratliff, Burney, Trinidad and Heustess scored runs for an 11-0 lead.

Molly Pait, Kaitlynn Brisson, and Katelynn Robinson drew walks and Hannah Richardson was hit by a pitch in the Tar Heel second inning. Pait and Richardson scored runs to trim the margin to 11-2.

Heustess and Emmee Ward drew walks and scored Clarkton runs in the fourth inning to boost the lead to 13-2. ShaNidra Richardson belted a single in the fifth inning, and Dyiamon Robinson, Heustess and Cydney Campbell drew walks and scored runs. Richardson also scored in the inning.

Turbeville batted 2-2 with a double and 2 runs scored to lead the Lady Blue Devil hitters. Burney, Richardson, Trinidad and Heustess added one hit each. Heustess scored 3 runs, and Karli Priest, Bowen, Burney and Trinidad scored 2 runs each. Ratliff, Robinson, Richardson, Campbell and Ward scored one run each.

Gracie Faircloth pitched 4 innings for Tar Heel and allowed 5 hits and 8 walks while striking out six. Kennedy Carroll relieved in the fifth inning and allowed a hit and 4 walks while strking out three.

Clarkton School of Discovery improved to 5-2 and will entertain Bladenboro Monday, while Tar Heel will host Nakina Monday.
