BLADENBORO – West Bladen exploded for six runs in the fifth inning and went on to defeat Fairmont 9-3 Friday night in Three Rivers Conference baseball action.

The Knights led 3-2 when junior Dawson Bryan was hit by a pitch to begin the fifth inning. Bryan stole second base and darted home when junior Nolan Bryant lined a single to centerfield. Senior Jeremy Pait ripped a single to left that scored Bryant. Freshman Devon Strange walked and senior Shawn Oxendine was hit by a pitch.

Junior Braylon Williamson knocked in Jeremy Pait and Strange with a double, and senior Dalton Pait laced a single to centerfield that scored Williamson. Dalton Pait advanced to third base on an error and scored when junior Logan West belted a single to rightfield to stretch the Knight lead to 9-2.

Dalton Pait batted 2-4 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Knight hitters. Logan West also batted 2-4 with an rbi and a run scored. Williamson cracked the 2-run double and scored a run.

Oxendine, junior Colby White, Jeremy Pait, Strange, Bryant and Bryan contributed one hit each to the West Bladen attack. Jeremy Pait drove in 3 runs and Bryant had an rbi. Bryan, Bryant, Strange, Jeremy Pait and White scored one run each.

Bryant pitched the first 4.1 innings for the Knights and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out two. Logan West pitched 2.2 innings of one-run relief, giving up 2 hits and a walk while striking out two.

Dalton Pait beat out a bunt single to start the Knight first inning. Logan West reached base on a fielder’s choice and Bryan walked. Dalton Pait and Logan West both scored on Jeremy Pait’s fielder’s choice to put West Bladen ahead 2-0.

Quentin Hunt, Andrew Smith and Michael Richardson singled in the Fairmont second as the Tornadoes tied the game 2-2.

White smashed a single to centerfield to begin the Knight fourth inning. Oxendine laid down a bunt single, and Williamson reached base on a fielder’s choice. White scored on a double play to edge the Knights in front 3-2.

Richardson drove in a seventh inning run for Fairmont and finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 rbi’s. Smith also batted 2-3. Freshman Colby Thorndyke started on the mound for the Tornadoes.

Coach John Ammons’ Knights will travel to Red Springs Monday night.
