FAYETTEVILLE – Cape Fear rallied for 4 runs in the sixth inning to defeat West Bladen 6-5 Tuesday in the Bulldog Baseball Easter Tournament at Terry Sanford High School.

The Knights carried a 4-2 lead into the home half of the sixth, but an error, two hit batters and run-scoring singles by junior Justin Lambert and sophmore Jeremy Quesenberry vaulted the Colts in front 6-4.

Knight junior Nolan Bryant blasted a solo home run over the centerfield fence in the top of the seventh inning to slice the Colt lead to 6-5.

The Knights had grabbed a 1-0 first-inning lead. Senior Dalton Pait smacked a single to centerfield, advanced on two passed balls and scored when senior Jeremy Pait belted a single.

The Colts answered in the home first. Senior Nick West singled to left, stole second and scored on two passed balls to tie the game 1-1.

Dalton Pait led off the Knight third with a single, stole third base and raced home when Jeremy Pait raked a single to left that edged West Bladen ahead 2-1.

Dalton Pait walked to begin the Knight fifth, and junior Logan West beat out a bunt single. Bryant belted a single to load the bases, and junior Braylon Williamson knocked in Dalton Pait and Logan West with a single to rightfield that padded the West Bladen lead to 4-1.

Doubles by Nick West and Nick Minicapelli produced a Cape Fear run in the home fifth that trimmed the margin to 4-2.

Dalton Pait batted 2-3 and scored 3 runs to lead the Knight hitters. Bryant finished 2-4 at the plate with the home run. Jeremy Pait batted 2-4 with 2 runs batted in. Williamson finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 rbi’s. Logan West added a single and scored a run.

Freshman Kaiden Stanley pitched 4.1 innings for the Knights and allowed 2 runs – one earned – on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out five. Senior Derrick Long worked 0.2 innings of relief and gave up 2 runs – one earned – on a walk and a hit batter.

Logan West pitched an inning and allowed 2 runs – one earned – on 2 hits while striking out one.

Cade Oliver batted 3-3 with an rbi for Cape Fear. Nick West was 2-4 with a double, an rbi and 2 runs scored. Cole Altman pitched the first four innings for the Colts and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out nine. Peyton Hope pitched the final 3 innings to pick up the win and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out five.

West Bladen will return to Three Rivers Conference play Tuesday night when they host South Columbus.
