This weekend, the human voice is the featured instrument as the UNCW Department of Music presents a two-night celebration featuring selections from popular operas and operettas, as well as UNCW choral favorites. The concerts and the new choral scholarship that will benefit from the proceeds are named for music professor Joe Hickman, who is retiring after 40 years of service to UNCW.

On Friday (April 26), opera will take center stage with selections from Don GiovanniThe Pirates of Penzance, Rigoletto and Into the Woods, among other favorites. Showtime is 7 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Cultural Arts Building. On Saturday (April 27), it’s an evening of all-time choral favorites featuring selections by Handel, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Hayden, Mozart and others at 7 p.m. in Beckwith Recital Hall.

Both programs are open to the public and will bring together students, faculty, alumni and friends of the music program.

Ticket prices for each performance are $20 for the general public and $6 for UNCW students with a valid ID. More information can be found here.
