Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Memorial Day is fast approaching, and for many, just a day off work, or time for a party, maybe a cookout. “Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.”

Guess, my first recollection of Memorial Day followed World War 11, in the mid to late 1940s, when we lost one of our own, David Guyton, a man I never knew, but one I will never forget. David Guyton was originally buried in a graveyard in the Zion Hill church community near Bladenboro. He was one of millions who gave their all, and we pause to show our appreciation on Memorial Day.

Graduation activities underway throughout the area with more to come. Congratulations. When I reflect on my early days, those I most remember included my 16th birthday when I was old enough to have a drivers license, followed by graduation from high school. Thought I was a “real” man, little did I know the biggest tests were yet to come. Go forth and do good.

Wish our political leaders could pause and remember they are elected to take care of our business, the business of the USA, not to “rip & rare & snort” and think only of themselves and their political party. Guess some things never change.

Still the greatest nation in the world.

“Being president is like being a jackass in a hailstorm. There’s nothing to do but stand there and take it.” Lyndon Johnson on being president

“If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?” Abraham Lincoln

“There they are. See no evil, hear no evil, and … evil.” Bob Dole, watching former presidents Carter, Ford, and Nixon standing by each other at a White House event.
