What a difference a few months makes. Rainfall totals for Bladen County over a three day period in mid-September was 36 inches, a full 3 feet of water. Came with Hurricane Florence and we all know about the damage in Bladen, especially in the Kelly area.

Compare with current conditions. Guess it’s feast or famine.

Hot weather again today, and no rain. Best chance for rain is Friday night, 50% with new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except better chance in thunderstorms.

As a youngster when there was no rainfall for days, weeks and months, prayer services were held in local churches. My grandfather was a praying man. Heard older folks say when Kingsbury prays for rain, you better bring your umbrella.

We need rain….

I hope there is more constructive action in DC than what we hear about.

Local units of government are wrestling with budget issues, towns and the county. A large percentage of a county budget is determined by what the state does, for social programs, education, etc. Difficult to approve a budget without solid numbers. Apparently state lawmakers are making progress. Wish that were true in DC. To be perfectly honest, the federal budget is on a slightly different schedule. Their fiscal year begins in October, if memory is correct. Makes little difference, been years since their budget was in place … they just operate on a continuing resolution.

Remember how excited you were when you were as a high school senior. We wish success to all.

The trouble with learning from experience is that you never graduate.

A graduation ceremony is an event where the commencement speaker tells thousands of students dressed in identical caps and gowns that ‘individuality’ is the key to success.

I’d advise graduates to keep your graduation gown. It’s the only outfit you might not outgrow.
