Temperatures aren’t expected to reach 100 degrees this weekend, but the heat wave will linger. The National Weather Service is forecasting high temperatures in the 90s.

So, being indoors might be the best idea. Here are some things to do inside in Bladen County this weekend.

Henry Singletary has captured the beauty of a hummingbird feeding on a passion flower among his wild bird photographs that are on exhibit through July 28 in the Bladenboro Visual Arts Council gallery located in the Bladenboro Historical Society building at 818 South Main Street.

The gallery and other rooms in the musuem are open Saturdays and Sundays from 2 until 4 p.m.

Some of the photographs will be sold to benefit the art gallery and museum building.

GOSPEL SING

The Harvesters will perform Sunday at Sandy Grove Baptist Church located at 8299 NC 242 South in Bladenboro. The concert is free. An offering will be taken for the group.

The Harvesters Quartet is a southern gospel group from North Carolina. Group members are Tommy Young (tenor), Danny Parker (lead), Allen Hunter (baritone) and Mark Hoggard (bass).

MOORES CREEK ANNUAL MEETING

Medal of Honor recipient Col. W. Joseph Marm Jr. (Retired) will be the guest speaker Saturday at the Moores Creek Battleground Association meeting and covered dish luncheon. The event in Currie will begin at noon in Patriots Hall at Moores Creek National Battlefield. The public is invited.

In addition to the Medal of Honor, Col. Marm is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition and remains an active supporter of men and women serving in the armed forces and veterans.

WHITE LAKE WATER CLEAN-UP

If you want to get outside and help in the community, the 3rd annual White Lake Water Clean-Up continues through Thursday. The town seeks volunteers to help restore and protect the community resource.

White Lake is asking for help to “Clean the lake, fill the dumpster” by removing debris from the shoreline and the lake. Among the items to be removed include overgrown vegetation, fallen trees, construction materials, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and any other trash that is found.

For information, contact Town Hall at (910) 862-4800.

COLUMBUS COUNTY HURRICANE EXPO

The second annual Columbus County Hurricane Expo is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Columbus County Fairgrounds on Prison Camp Road in Whiteville.

People can learn more about disaster preparation and recovery, according to Kip Godwin, who is the president of Columbus County Disaster Recovery.

Information is available at www.columbuscountydisasterresponse.org.

Get out and enjoy all that Bladen County and the region has to offer. Have a great weekend.
