This week the local non-profit, Men & Women United are working together with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CPF) to repair four homes damaged by hurricanes, according to Rev. Keith Graham with Men & Women United in East Arcadia.

There are 13 members from Monte Vista Baptist Church located in Maryville, TN on the CPF team partnering with Men & Women United to help with disaster relief.

There are two homes in Bladen County and two homes in Columbus County that will be receiving assistance from the team. Repairs to ceilings, plumbing, floors and more are all taking place in the homes.

“It’s such a blessing to be able to partner and help our community,” Rev. Keith Graham said.

“We just knew they needed help,” said Joe Hill, the lead coordinator on the CPF team.

“A Veteran couldn’t take a shower; before sunset today, he will take a shower, “ Mr. Hill said.

The group is working to assist local veterans, disabled persons, orphans and other citizens in Bladen and Columbus counties still devastated by the negative impacts from Hurricanes Florence and Matthew.

“These are people who are desperate and they are almost helpless, but we are here to show them, they are not helpless and they are not alone,” Rev. Graham said.

Governor Roy Cooper announced just this past Monday that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has designated Bladen and Columbus counties as among the Most Impacted and Distressed areas that were impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

C.J. Jordan, Deputy Communications Director with the North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resilience (NCORR) explained to BladenOnline.com staff earlier today; anyone needing home repairs may fill out an application at ReBuild NC. After the application has been accepted, inspectors will be deployed to the area to survey the home. If repairs or replacements are needed assistance will be provided if the home owner qualifies.
