The local non-profit, Men & Women United, have joined forces with the volunteers at the Baltimore Center in Council to help mentor children this month by offering a free camp. Over 40 campers have taken advantage of the day camp opportunity held at East Arcadia Elementary School.
Breakfast and lunch is served daily to the children, according to Camp Director Roberta Graham. The camp started July 8 and will continue until
July 31.
Rev. Keith Graham with Men & Women United has assisted at the camp with the guest speakers to encourage the children to think about career and community opportunities. Some of the guest speakers the camp has are Natalie Murdock with a contract company for Smithfield Foods, Dr. Robert Taylor, Superintendent with Bladen County Schools, Dr. Pearly Hoskins, a local retired physician and Mrs. Berline P. Graham, a local philanthropists and patron.
“The gym here at the school is actual named after Mrs. Berline Graham, so the children got a chance to meet our living legend,” Rev. Graham said.
The campers will enjoy a trip to Jungle Rapids before the summer ends. The camp has also promoted other camps like the 4-H Robotics Camp for their attendees to take advantage of this summer.
