Thoughts While ShavingAnother hot day is in store for area residents and another Heat Advisory is in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Our high today is expected to be 98 degrees, 99 tomorrow and Wednesday, 98 Thursday and 95 on Friday…..Use caution when outside…
A WRAL Documentary “An Obvious Suspect” will air Tuesday at 7 p.m.  on the Raleigh station, at the same time on WILM-TV in Wilmington and WRAZ-TV Durham on Sunday, July 5 at 5 p.m.  Could be an eye-opening report related to the death of two Bladen County ladies nearly 40 years ago.  Joseph Sledge spent 37 years in prison before being released after new evidence was discovered in Bladen and Columbus courthouses and DNA failed to tie him to the scene.  The original trial for Sledge was held in Columbus County.
How about Jordan Spieth?  A 21 year old Texan who has captured the first two legs of golf’s 2015 Grand Slam.  He captured the Masters Golf tournament a few weeks ago…The US Open Golf victory Sunday came when Dustin Johnson, of Myrtle Beach, three putted the final hole.
Hope your weekend was good…Mine was great…Returned home from a business trip to Myrtle Beach….attended a good church service, a nice surprise for our minister and some time with 2 sons, my favorite granddaughter and spouse….Good food, good visit, all you could hope for on Father’s Day…Grandson was ‘winging’ his way to Hawaii for a company related vacation…and daughter-in-law was where she should be …with her father…Life is good.
Bladen County Commissioners meet again tonight as the days ‘wind down’ on the budget process.  Must be approved prior to July 1st.  The board is facing some tough issues…Reval, how to pay for a court ordered jail, a ‘must’ upgrade of EMS vehicles…all with one eye on a school system that faces some tough decisions soon…and most likely very expensive.
I love Bladen County, but poor counties are caught in the squeeze of decreasing support from the state, decades of ‘putting off capital needs’ that are catching up with them and local residents who are working hard just to ‘make ends meet.’
Stay tuned….
