This week saw much activity at the Bladen County First Responders Training Center. There were three classes running simultaneously for regional law enforcement and detention personnel. The Bladen County Sheriffs Office specialized Training Unit hosted a week long training course that was a first in Bladen County, according to Sergeant Gary Turlington.
Mr. Wayne Coates, owner of Milco Training Solutions from Pitt County, presented First Line Supervisors Training to newly promoted officers and promotional candidates. In attendance were deputies and Detention Officers from Bladen, Columbus, and Robeson Counties along with Elizabethtown Police Department personnel. This class teaches various techniques of police supervision and conflict resolution to promote efficiency in our agencies.
The entire uniformed Patrol Division of the Clinton Police Department attended Precision, Pursuit, and Forced Vehicle Stop Training this week. These officers attended the classroom portions at the Training Center and the practicals were conducted at the Curtis Brown Airfield in Elizabethtown.
The third class was conducted for the Bladen County Sheriffs Office Detention Officers by Elizabethtown Assistant Chief Anthony Norris. He instructed the requisite training for the proper use and operation of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units that are strategically located in the BCSO Detention Facility.

Sgt. Turlington explained, “Although these units are not required to be in our facility, Sheriff McVicker wanted our Detention Staff properly trained in their use and placement in the event of an emergency where they would be utilized. This affords an exceptional margin of safety by expediting staff movements and detainee evacuations if they are required.”
“This is yet another example of our efforts to train together and work together to provide more efficient services and protection to those we serve. Logistical support was provided by Bladen Community College and the Town of Elizabethtown Manager’s Office. Additionally, the Airport Operations Manager, Mitch Taylor is appreciated for his assistance in hosting this important training,” Sgt. Turlington stated.
