BaseballElizabethtown pounded out 22 hits and outslugged Fairmont 15-10 in their opening game of the District 9 Coach-Pitch Tournament at Fairmont.

Allister Russ led off the Elizabethtown first inning with a single, but was forced at second on Lucas Johnson’s fielder’s choice. Torrean Cogdell blasted a triple that scored Johnson.

Jake Gooden drove in Cogdell with a single, and Mason Smith followed with a single. Peyton Tatum slammed a double that scored Gooden, and Collin King’s grounder brought home Smith. Easton Bostic belted a single that plated Tatum with the fifth run of the inning.

Elizabethtown tacked on six more runs in the third. Johnson, Gooden and Smith started the inning with doubles that produced two runs. Tatum and Collin King followed with singles that brought home Smith.

Bostic’s fielder’s choice forced King, but Joshua Freeman walloped a triple that drove in Tatum and Bostic. Brodie Bryant smacked a single that drove in Freeman.

Russ and Johnson cracked one-out singles in the fourth, and Russ sprinted home on Cogdell’s fielder’s choice.

Smith led off the Elizabethtown fifth with a single, and Tatum swatted a double. King knocked in Smith with a single, and Bostic’s fielder’s choice plated Tatum. Freeman cracked a single, and Braylon Cromartie’s grounder scored Bostic with the third run of the inning.

Tatum and Smith both batted 3-3 to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Russ, Johnson, Gooden, King, Freeman, Bryant and Cromartie all finished 2-3 at the plate. Cogdell and Bostic added one hit each for the winners.

Tatum slugged 2 doubles, and Johnson, Gooden, and Smith clubbed a double each. Freeman and Cogdell hammered one triple each.

Bostic ended the game by turning a double play for the final two outs.
