ROSE HILL – Seniors Lexie Corrothers and Kasee Singletary combined for 25 points Tuesday night to lead West Bladen to a 58-16 non-conference girls basketball victory over Union.

Corrothers pumped in 15 points to lead the Lady Knight scoring. Singletary filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Senior Mikayla Meadows tossed in 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Sophomore Hannah Pait added 7 points.

“We had better production from our post players than we had last week,” said Lady Knight Coach Brian McCleney. “Hannah and Mikayla both had some big baskets. They can make it where we don’t have to rely as much on Lexie and Kasee.”

Corrothers dropped in a transition lay-up, hit 2 free throws and raced end-to-end for another lay-up as West Bladen grabbed an early 11-5 lead. Singletary sank 2 free throws and drove for a lay-up during the run.

Senior Seniah Johnson stole the ball and raced for a lay-up to begin the second period. Freshman Rylee Chadwick put back a rebound, sophmore Haley George canned 2 free throws and Singletary drove for a lay-up .

Pait made a free throw, Chadwick stole the ball and raced for a lay-up and a 3-point play, and George turned a steal into a lay-up and a 25-6 lead. A Singletary assist led to an Ocean Woody lay-up and a 27-9 halftime lead.

Meadows started the second half with a pair of lay-ups. Singletary assisted on one of the Meadows lay-ups and sank 2 foul shots. A Jamiyah Melvin-Hall pass produced a Johnson lay-up, and 2 Chadwick assists led to a pair of Pait lay-ups. Woody found Pait inside for another lay-up, and Singletary converted a steal into a lay-up and a 43-13 lead at the third quarter break.

Corrothers drove for a quartet of lay-ups in the final period, and Meadows worked the paint for 2 more baskets. Melvin-Hall put back a rebound.

George finished with 4 points and 4 steals in the game, and Chadwick pulled down 5 rebounds and tallied 5 points.

“We made more shots than we did last week,” said McCleney. “And our defensive effort was better tonight.”

LaTyra English led Union with 5 points.

The Lady Knights, now 1-1, will host Fairmont Tuesday night in their Three Rivers Conference opener.
