WHITEVILLE – Amani Best scored 10 of his game-high 14 points for Whiteville Central in the second half as the Hornets pulled out a 28-24 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Bladenboro Monday.

Cade Allen and Landon Stanley popped in first period baskets, and Hezekiah Adams dropped in a free throw to keep Bladenboro tied with the Hornets 5-5 at the quarter break.

Adams, Allen and center Chase Williams sank free throws in the second quarter for the Bulldogs, but a pair of Best baskets pushed Central ahead 12-8 at halftime.

Williams powered inside for 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the third quarter, and Aaron Lewis pumped in a basket to keep the Bulldogs within 21-16. Williams muscled in 2 more baskets, Adams canned 2 free throws,  and Lewis threw in a basket in the final quarter.

Williams led the Bladenboro scoring with 11 points, and Adams and Lewis totaled 4 points each.

The Bulldogs, now 3-2 in Division AA play and 5-3 overall, will host Williams Township Thursday.
