Sounds of laughter and cheering will be echoing across the athletic field at Elizabethtown Middle School on Thursday, April 9th during this year’s Bladen County Special Olympics. The athletes will compete from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with their fans watching with support.

Dr. Taylor said previously of the event, “This is a great event. We look forward to it every year. This is an opportunity to celebrate all of those kids that are a part of the special education program not only in Bladen County Schools but even our adult programs that we have.”

The mission of  Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Anyone interested in making a donation, volunteering, or participating with the event call 910-862-4136, ext. 10026. Elizabethtown Middle School is located at 1496 US-701 in Elizabethtown, NC.
