Harrells Christian Academy proudly congratulates junior Rhylee Pope of Clinton on her prestigious acceptance into the Governor’s School of North Carolina for the summer of 2020. Rhylee Pope says she is excited for this opportunity to meet new people, learn new things, and get a real feel for college life. The Governor’s School of North Carolina is a 5½-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students.

Hosted on the campuses of Meredith College and High Point University, the program integrates academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. Students are selected to attend through a competitive process after being nominated by their public school unit or non-public school. Rhylee was nominated in the field of Natural Science and worked with her teachers and HCA college counselor Noel Blue to complete her application.

“It was quite a long application,” said Rhylee. “I had to type two essays, submit my resume, and get two recommendations from teachers.”  This will be a valuable experience for Rhylee as she hopes to go into a scientific field in the future. She shares, “Science has always been my favorite subject in school because it deals with real-life processes.”

From June 21-July 29th, Rhylee will call the Meredith College campus her home while being immersed in a curriculum that focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts and does not involve credit, tests, or grades.  Rhylee’s HCA family is very proud of her and wishes her the best of luck in this endeavor.
