The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning along the Cape Fear River through Wednesday afternoon.

The combination of recent heavy rains and more rain forecast Saturday is expected to cause the river to overflow its banks. People with interests along the river should take the necessary precautions to protect life and property from the flood waters.

At 6 a.m. Saturday, the river at W.O. Huske Lock near the Bladen County and Cumberland County line was measured at 46.16 feet, according to the National Weather Service. Flood stage is 42 feet. The river is expected to crest Sunday afternoon at 49.4 feet.

The river at Lock No. 2 in Elizabethtown was expected to surpass its 25-foot flood stage late Saturday afternoon. The river was measured at 23.5 feet as of 7 a.m. Saturday. It’s expected to crest at 27.8 feet by Monday morning.
