North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper held a COVID-19 media briefing on Wednesday, June 25. During the presentation, he announced his decision to extend Safer At Home “Phase 2” for three more weeks with a pause instead of ending the phase on June 26, 2020. In addition to extending Phase 2, Cooper added a requirement for face coverings in his Executive Order.

Today, Bladen County Sheriff, Jim McVicker released a statement on the face-covering requirements. He stated, “As you are aware, Governor Roy Cooper has issued Executive Order 147, effective Friday, June 26, at 5:00 pm. The order requires citizens to wear masks under certain conditions”.

Sheriff McVicker added, “The order does not authorize law enforcement to arrest for failing to wear a mask. “There are many exceptions to the order and do not require mask in private workplaces, residences, or outside recreation areas.”

Closing Sheriff McVicker said, “The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office will not be enforcing the mask order and are relying on our citizens to use good judgment in determining when to wear a mask for their health, safety and well being.”
